Our world is full of gods, powers, and the demonic. Recently I visited an ethnographic museum in Ethiopia and stumbled upon a small section describing the activity of evil spirits in that country. The exhibit explained that even though the 20th century brought skepticism about the reality of such spirits, a significant percentage of Ethiopians still believe themselves to be possessed by one.
That astonishing statistic, recorded with such bald recognition, reveals something about the world we inhabit. But also about our own presuppositions. In our Western culture, perhaps sheltered from overt demonic activity, we rarely see the supernatural at work. A demon is believed to be a force that can be conjured and controlled. They are also believed to have the ability to possess or inhabit the body of humans and the only way to rid the person of them is to conduct deliverance and/or Exorcism. Demons are portrayed differently in different cultures. Some believe demons to be actual physical beings that can take the form of anything, including animals. Others consider the real demons as more of a spiritual force of evil battling for one’s soul. They have been feared and written about in almost every culture in one form or another.

Every believer struggles at different times with spiritual attacks even though we don’t always recognize it as from the devil. We blame our circumstances, family, friends, and sometimes even God, for our troubles. Yet Satan is a master deceiver who instigates problems and disappears before anyone recognizes his influence.
The Bible instructs us in Ephesians 6:10 that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms”. If we recognize the signs of a spiritual attack, we won’t waste time blaming the wrong people—instead we focus on dealing with the devil and overcoming him. What are the 7 signs that you are dealing with a spiritual attack?
